Teacher Education Program Transfer Information for SUNY Oswego

Overall GPA Entrance Requirement
GPA minimum of 2.50 overall for AA/AS degree with no grade lower than C- in required pedagogy, content major/concentration or cognate courses.

Requirements for Major/Concentration
The education programs at SUNY Oswego are nationally-accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). You are strongly encouraged to complete as much of the coursework in your content area as possible during your associate degree program, using the specific program information available at the SUNY Oswego websites listed below as a guide for selection of courses beyond those listed on this SUNY Transfer Template website.

Childhood/Early Childhood

Adolescence Education

You are strongly encouraged to print copies of this information for you and your advisor to use whenever possible in selecting coursework for your associate degree.

Other Application Requirements
During the first semester of professional education courses (which includes the required upper-division foundations course EDU 301 Schooling, Pedagogy, and Social Justice), candidates complete a portfolio for Admission to Candidacy as described on the websites given above. If possible during your associate degree program, you are encouraged to collect evidence of work in diverse settings and with P-12 students; examples of high quality work in your content major/concentration; and a letter of recommendation from your advisor or other educational professional.

Specific Curriculum Comments
All candidates should complete the SUNY Oswego modern language requirement during their associate degree program through either successful completion of a 102-level foreign language course (or its equivalent) in college or successful completion of high school study of a foreign language through Regents level 4.

The childhood programs at SUNY Oswego require two semesters of mathematics. Please go to the childhood mathematics page for your 2-yr college on this website to determine if there are acceptable mathematics courses offered to fulfill this requirement. In addition, the childhood programs at SUNY Oswego require a laboratory science which you are encouraged to complete during your associate degree work.
