New Horizons Fall 2008 Courses

New Horizons, a SUNY CPD vendor partner, offers discounted pricing on courses in Syracuse and Rochester. Use your ITEC training points!

SUNY CPD Technical Programs are offered for IT staff throughout SUNY. The SUNY CPD, in collaboration with the Information Technology Exchange Center (ITEC), Computing Officers Association (COA) and other SUNY organizations, works with campuses to identify technical training needs and implement appropriate training solutions to meet their goals. Each ITEC member campus has ITEC training points that can be used to pay for Technical Training Programs. Please visit "What are Points?" for further information on points.

Services We Provide

With the rapid rate of change in information technology, the SUNY CPD continually collaborates with the IT communities at member institutions to identify evolving needs and enhance the skills of SUNY technical professionals. A few of the services we provide to campuses are:

  • Technical Training - The SUNY CPD offers professional development training based upon the needs of your campus. Examples of such training include Oracle database and application development, UNIX, XML, and Hyperion Performance Suite.
  • Customized Professional Development Plans - The SUNY CPD develops or contracts for programs tailored to unique campus requirements. Programs have included training plans to supplement Banner implementation, project management training, Oracle training paths, data migration techniques, and data warehousing.
  • Specialized Vendor Training Contracts - The SUNY CPD negotiates with technology-based companies to provide training for web development tools, operating systems, desktop publishing, database products, programming, and network/system administration tools.
  • Webinar Series - The SUNY CPD's Technical Programs team periodically creates and offers webinars that focus on critical concerns, such as Disaster Recovery Planning, and specialized vendor software, such as Content Management Software and Email Security Software.

Wizard Conferences

The SUNY CPD hosts an annual conference in the fall and spring that provides specialized content to educational technologists, systems and networking specialists, and policy makers. These conferences offer sessions on topics ranging from storage management solutions, network security and ERP system implementation to disaster recovery planning.

Wizard conferences can include facilitated sessions, roundtables and informal discussions where SUNY folks can get together to collaborate and share what is happening on their campus and attend relevant sessions. Occasionally we invite vendors to present on a specific topic or product relevant to the current needs within SUNY. However, when we do ask vendors to offer or assist with sessions, we require they provide technical staff to present and focus only on the technologies we invite them to address - no marketing.

For more information about Technical Programs, please contact Margaret Murad, Technical Programs Manager at mmurad@cpd.suny.edu or (315) 233-3052.
