This policy outlines the State University of New York (University) regulations regarding the transportation of persons requiring emergency medical care.
A. Special ambulance vehicles will not be provided through state funds to any campus to transport students or staff requiring medical care.
B. Special ambulance vehicles may be used provided the vehicle meets the requirements of State and local laws and regulations for an ambulance service.
C. Transportation of persons requiring emergency medical care must be authorized by the director of health services or a physician, nurse or other campus official duly designated by the director of health services.
1. When ambulance service is available and necessary, as in situations in which persons must be transferred in a prone position, campus are expected to call upon services, which meet state and local requirements for ambulance service.
2. A staff vehicle may be used for transportation to the campus infirmary or hospital emergency room when immediate medical care is necessary if authorized by the director of health services or designee. The type of vehicle used must be appropriate for the purpose.
