This policy outlines the rules and regulations regarding student residence in residence hall housing at state-operated campuses of the State University of New York (University).
Residence in University Housing Facilities
Every student, in full-time attendance at a state-operated campus of the State University of New York University (University) other than married students or students residing with a parent or parents, shall be required either to live in a dormitory maintained and operated by such campus or to have permission under such provisions as may be made therefore by the president, or designee, of such campus to live off-campus.
Presidents Authorized to Make Rules and Regulations for Student Housing
A. Subject to these regulations, and except as may otherwise be provided by the chancellor of the University, the president of each campus of the University is hereby authorized to make and administer rules and regulations for student housing which may:
1. prescribe the extent to which students in full-time attendance, other than married students or students residing with a parent or parents, shall be required to live in residence halls operated by such unit; and
2. provide the procedure for obtaining the permission of such president or such other officer or officers as he/she may designate to live off-campus.
B. In making such rules and regulations, each president, or designee, shall consider the educational needs and interests of the campus, the extent to which housing is available and utilized in residence halls, and to provisions for individual cases under special circumstances.
Students to be Informed by Catalog
The rules and regulations promulgated by each president, or designee, with respect to student housing shall be included in the catalog of his/her campus and shall also be printed in any other publications (paper or electronic) of the campus prepared for the information of students applying or accepted for admission.
