The State University of New York (University) follows the policy set forth by the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) which establishes proper protocol for students applying to University campuses offering the early decision and early action option.
The early decision program is for fall freshman and can be used for one campus choice only. The application includes a request for a parent and counselor signature in addition to the student’s signature indicating an understanding of the early decision commitment and agreement to abide by its terms.
To apply early decision an application must arrive by November 1. The campus will notify the student of its decision by December 15. If a student is accepted early decision the student will be asked to make a tuition deposit on January 15 and withdraw applications at all other campuses.
Early action is a non-binding early application/notification program for fall freshman. To apply early action, the student’s application should arrive by November 15. The campus will notify the student of their decision by January 1. If accepted in early action, the student has until May 1 to finalize the enrollment decision and that student does not have to withdraw applications from other campuses.
The student must indicate the desire to apply early decision or early action on the SUNY common application.
