Statement from SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher on Siena Poll Findings Regarding Empowerment Act

July 15, 2010

Contact: David Henahan, pr@sysadm

“Today’s Siena Poll provides confirmation of the broad-based, statewide support for the Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act.

“With a margin of 54-36, New Yorkers have made a clear choice to unleash the vast potential of the State University of New York.

“Across all geographic and political boundaries, a majority of New Yorkers recognize that the Empowerment Act is essential both for SUNY's future and for New York's economic revitalization.

“To the growing list of students, faculty, legislators, economic development organizations, the statewide building trades union, business and community leaders, we can now add the majority of New Yorkers as supporters of the Empowerment Act.

“With this clear mandate, we urge the legislature to act in the best interest of our citizens and of the future of this great state by passing the Empowerment Act."
