Albany – Three State
University of New York campuses have been named “Best Value Colleges” by The Princeton Review in partnership with USA Today.
The rankings include 100
colleges and universities across the nation, both private and public. They are
intended to highlight quality education at an affordable price.
“We understand and embrace
our role in delivering to the state a high quality education that is both
accessible and affordable,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “The
Princeton Review’s decision to include three SUNY campuses in its list of ‘Best
Value Colleges,’ one of which is ranked fourth in the nation, provides further proof that SUNY schools truly deliver a
stellar education at an affordable price.”
Binghamton University, ranked
fourth of all public institutions, was highlighted on NBC’s Today
Show. Stony Brook University and SUNY
Geneseo were amongst the top 50 public institutions in the nation.
“Even in this challenging
economy, Binghamton University continues to provide an excellent education and
exceptional value to students and their families,” said Binghamton’s interim
president, Peter Magrath. “We take pride in our ability to think creatively
about our activities and our ability to tap into any possible innovations so
that we can continue to provide the kind of high quality education that our
students have come to expect from Binghamton University.”
“Geneseo’s inclusion on this
list and others like it affirms the strong emphasis our faculty places on
undergraduate teaching and research,” said Geneseo’s associate vice president
for enrollment services, Bill Caren. “Students and parents searching for that
‘best fit’ college will find Geneseo very attractive to those looking for a
strong academic program in a highly supportive environment.”
“It is rewarding when Stony
Brook is recognized for its excellence and value by an independent organization
such as The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges – especially when budgets are
being cut and we have to do more with less," Stony Brook’s provost and
senior vice president for academic affairs, Eric W. Kaler. "We continue to
be committed to providing a great education and great value for our students in
these difficult times.”
In January, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance recognized 11 campuses as “Top
100 Best Values in Public Colleges,” earning SUNY more spots in the top 100
than any other state or state university system. These included Binghamton
University ranking 6th, SUNY Geneseo 7th, Stony Brook University 25th, SUNY New
Paltz 36th, University at Buffalo 46th, SUNY Oneonta 47th, the College at
Brockport 63rd, SUNY Plattsburgh 64th, SUNY Fredonia 65th, SUNY Cortland 70th,
and University at Albany 73rd for in-state value.
Tuition at SUNY
is just $4,970 for New York residents - the lowest tuition for any public
institution of higher education in the Northeast, and among the lowest in the
nation.
