“We are
pleased that the NCAA has completed its investigation following up on that
undertaken by Judge Judith Kaye on behalf of SUNY and Binghamton. This action
brings the matter to a conclusion and the campus and its student athletes can
now move forward.
“The SUNY
investigation of the Binghamton basketball program found that a number of
employees
engaged in
inappropriate conduct, particularly as it relates to mentoring our student
athletes. Many of these issues go far beyond the NCAA's role and
responsibilities.
“Thus, we
are gratified that thanks to the strong leadership of President Peter Magrath,
steps have been taken to address the academic issues brought to light by the
investigation in a comprehensive manner.”
