Albany – State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher today nominated Johanna Duncan-Poitier to serve as
vice chancellor for community colleges in addition to her current role as
chancellor’s deputy for the education pipeline.
“Johanna’s
extensive background in higher education leadership makes her an ideal
candidate to take on additional responsibility for our community colleges,”
said Chancellor Zimpher. “In these tough economic times, we are all being
called upon to take on more duties. Johanna has stepped up to the plate in a
way that will leverage her considerable talent and expertise while furthering
our goal of expanded integration of the community college sector.”
“Community
colleges are on the cutting edge of innovations in higher education and
economic revitalization.” said Duncan-Poitier. “I am so pleased to have this
opportunity to work more closely with the leadership of our 30 community
colleges to support student success and strengthen SUNY’s impact on the future
of New York State.”
“Johanna is
an excellent choice to coordinate the efforts of our sector of higher
education,” said Rockland Community College President Cliff Wood, chair of the
New York Community College Association of Presidents, an organization that also
includes leaders from the City University of New York. “Her energy and
determination will be of great value to the students, faculty and staff of
community colleges across the state.”
