SUNY Board Chair H. Carl McCall Names Cary F. Staller as Chair of Finance Committee

December 29, 2011

Albany - State University of New York Board of Trustees Chairman H. Carl McCall today announced the selection of Cary F. Staller as chairman of the Board's Finance and Administration Committee, effective immediately. Staller is President of Staller Associates, Inc., a commercial real estate firm with offices in Hauppauge, New York.

The Finance and Administration Committee oversees many operating issues for the University, including those related to the university budget, administration, information technology, real property transactions, and capital facilities.

“Trustee Staller’s unique perspective and knowledgeable experience make him ideally suited to chair the Board’s Finance and Administration Committee,” said Chairman McCall, previous committee chair. “Recommendations made by this committee greatly impact operations at each of SUNY’s 64 campuses and ultimately ensure that the quality and affordability of a SUNY education is maintained. I am pleased to make this appointment and grateful to Trustee Staller for accepting this responsibility.”

“The Finance and Administration Committee is where some of the most important and most difficult decisions are made on behalf of the entire SUNY system,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “As chair, Trustee Staller will lead critical discussions regarding the university’s finances, budget, and operational matters. I am most confident in his ability to take on this role and commend Chairman McCall for his selection.”

SUNY Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Brian Hutzley, who serves as the Committee’s staff liaison, said, “Cary Staller’s attention to detail and analytical capabilities are a critical asset to the entire SUNY system. I appreciate the opportunity to work more closely with Trustee Staller moving forward.”

Trustee Staller said, “I am deeply humbled by the confidence shown in me by Chairman McCall and Chancellor Zimpher and I look forward to serving as chair of the Finance and Administration Committee. Together with the members of the committee and SUNY staff, we will continue to work with the best interests of students and faculty in mind.”

Staller was appointed to the SUNY Board of Trustees on June 3, 2009.

He is also secretary and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Stony Brook Foundation at Stony Brook University. Since 1988, Staller has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University. He previously served on the Quality Assessment Review Board of Stony Brook University Medical Center.

A graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy and the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Staller was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School.

Following graduation from law school, Staller worked as an attorney specializing in real estate and tax law. He is a member of the bar of the State of New York.

From 1999 until retiring in 2008, Staller served as the Mayor of the Village of Old Field on Long Island. He and his wife reside in the village and they are the parents of three children.

Members of the Finance and Administration Committee include Trustees Kaitlyn Beachner, Joseph Belluck, Ronald Ehrenberg, Marshall Lichtman, John Murad, and Linda Sanford.
