New York City – SUNY Vice
Chancellor for Global Affairs Mitch Leventhal today named Thomas Moebus as
interim director of the SUNY Levin Institute, effective January 1, 2012. His appointment will continue until a permanent
director assumes the post.
Moebus has served as Vice
President of the SUNY Levin Institute since July 2006. In this role, he has
helped to create and manage a platform of successful programs aimed at
globalization, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Previously, he served as vice
chancellor of advancement at the University of California, Irvine. While in
California, he also founded Strategic Advancement, a consultancy. He was the
co-founder and executive chairman of the Orange County Technology Action
Network (OCTANe), a community-based innovation and entrepreneurship support
organization, which has achieved significant success as an engine of economic
development in Southern California. Mr. Moebus also spent 17 years on the staff
at MIT, serving as director of corporate relations. He is a graduate of both
MIT and Clark University.

Moebus has agreed to serve as Interim Director,” said Leventhal. “The SUNY
Levin Institute provides programs that are critically important to the economic
development of New York State as we strive to revitalize the economy. As
Interim Director, Tom Moebus will play a key role as Levin’s programs
increasingly interface with our campuses and communities.”
Following eight years as
president, renowned broadcast journalist Garrick
Utley is stepping down as of December 31, 2011, and will continue as senior
fellow.
