New York City – SUNY Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs Mitch Leventhal today named Thomas Moebus as interim director of the SUNY Levin Institute, effective January 1, 2012. His appointment will continue until a permanent director assumes the post.

In this role, he has helped to create and manage a platform of successful programs aimed at globalization, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Previously, he served as vice chancellor of advancement at the University of California, Irvine. While in California, he also founded Strategic Advancement, a consultancy. He was the co-founder and executive chairman of the Orange County Technology Action Network (OCTANe), a community-based innovation and entrepreneurship support organization, which has achieved significant success as an engine of economic development in Southern California. Mr. Moebus also spent 17 years on the staff at MIT, serving as director of corporate relations. He is a graduate of both MIT and Clark University.

“I am very pleased that Tom Moebus has agreed to serve as Interim Director,” said Leventhal. “The SUNY Levin Institute provides programs that are critically important to the economic development of New York State as we strive to revitalize the economy. As Interim Director, Tom Moebus will play a key role as Levin’s programs increasingly interface with our campuses and communities.”
