“I
applaud Governor Cuomo's newly announced reforms to improve government
efficiency and ease the financial burden on New York's taxpayers. SUNY pledges
full support to the Governor and State in making these efforts a success.
“A
similar sense of urgency and responsibility to our students guides decision
making at SUNY. We can no longer accept the status quo if we want to continue
to provide students the outstanding and affordable education experience they
deserve, and have every right to expect. The steps outlined by Governor Cuomo
today - transforming procurement practices, modernizing systems, eliminating
redundancy and waste in state operations - are the only responsible course in
these times of limited resources and a rapidly changing economy.
“Over
the past year, we have further committed to fostering partnerships with the
state and among our campuses to find similar savings, allowing SUNY to redirect
existing funding to enhance learning opportunities and access for students.
“The
ongoing ability of SUNY to meet our obligations to the people of New York
demands tough choices. Inspired by the Governor's leadership, SUNY will
continue to explore opportunities to share services responsibly and in ways
that ultimately support our accessibility and the academic success of our
students.”
