SUNY Chancellor, Long Island Area Campuses Showcase Innovation

Long Island – State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher and six SUNY campuses in the Long Island region today hosted the first in a series of campus showcases that SUNY has scheduled for the third year of its strategic plan – The Power of SUNY.

Hundreds were in attendance today at Stony Brook University, where the host campus as well as Farmingdale State College, Nassau Community College, Empire State College, Suffolk Community College and SUNY Old Westbury put on public display the strongest programs and finest innovations they offer. In all, the campuses put on more than 30 exhibits.

“Whether they took to the skies in Farmingdale State College’s flight simulator or experienced Albert Einstein’s discovery of the Photo Electric Effect at Nassau Community College’s virtual lab, I am confident that each of today’s visitors left with a new knowledge and appreciation of the outstanding programs our campuses offer,” said Chancellor Zimpher. “Thank you to all who attended and congratulations to all involved.”

As SUNY enters the third year of its strategic plan, Year of the SUNY Campus, Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher has asked each of the 64 SUNY campuses to present a half-day of public programming that highlights their greatest ability to contribute innovative, best-in-class solutions that will help build a stronger economy and a better future for all New Yorkers.

SUNY campus showcases will be held in every region of New York State in the coming months. The next one will feature SUNY campuses in the Mid-Hudson region, at Purchase College, on Oct. 18, 2011.

A full showcase agenda is available online.
