Rochester – State University New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher today addressed the 57th annual conference of New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT) at Monroe Community College.

The theme of this year’s NYCCT conference is “The Role of Community College Trustees in SUNY,” providing opportunities for trustees to understand how they can play a role with SUNY’s strategic plan, The Power of SUNY.

“Community colleges are the foundation of higher education across the nation, and I am so pleased that leadership from all of New York’s community colleges have come together to discuss expanding their institution’s potential,” said Chancellor Zimpher. “Our strategic plan, The Power of SUNY, focuses on being an economic engine for the state and improving the quality of life for our citizens. No institution does that better and on a more personal level than the community college, and SUNY’s have been proven leaders and innovators in that regard.”

Earlier this week, Chancellor Zimpher was in New Orleans to participate in the 91st annual convention of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). There she provided remarks entitled “Education Pipeline Imperative: Community Colleges Close the Gap,” which addressed the potential of community colleges to effect improvements in cradle through career education in partnership with four-year institutions.

The AACC annual meeting is among the nation’s largest gatherings of educational leaders, attracting over 2,000 community college presidents and senior administrators, as well as international educators, representatives of business and industry, and federal agencies. The focus of the convention is professional development, with opportunities to network, share, and learn from professionals in the fields of education, business and industry, and the government sector.
