Statement from SUNY Chancellor Nancy L Zimpher
"SUNY
applauds Governor Paterson for his leadership in bringing forward innovative
proposals to strengthen New York. The Governor’s proposals on research and
economic development are most encouraging.
"SUNY
campuses attract nearly $1 billion a year in research and sponsored programs
and are well positioned to successfully compete for resources in the Governor’s
Innovation Economy Matching Grants Program and the $25 million New Technology
Seed Fund. We know new investment in research will lead to additional business
development and job creation.
"In
addition, the Governor’s Sustainable Neighborhood project for revitalizing
housing in cities and towns across the state will help SUNY to attract and
retain top faculty, students and staff by enhancing the quality of life in the
communities our campuses serve.
"SUNY
campuses have deep roots and we put our imaginations and resources to work
every day. We want to better use ourknowledge and skills to
promote safe and livable neighborhoods, stable housing, and thriving
workplaces.
"SUNY
looks forward to working with Governor Paterson and the State Legislature to
rebuild New York."
