Albany – State University of New York
Chancellor-Designate Dr. Nancy L. Zimpher became the first SUNY chancellor to
hold a press conference exclusively for SUNY student media via webcast.
Student
Assembly Director of Communications and University at Albany graduate student
David Belsky moderated the March 11, 2009 event. More than 59 individuals at
nearly 30 locations participated. Chancellor Zimpher answered questions
on a range of topics such as campus safety, tuition, budget concerns, and being
the first female chancellor.
“I am very
grateful to the SUNY Student Assembly for their assistance in
making the webcast possible and I look forward to talking with student media on
a regular, on-going basis,” said Chancellor Zimpher. “It is a great experience
for student journalists to participate in press conferences and it is a
wonderful opportunity for me to talk with these students and carry the message
directly to our colleges about what SUNY is doing to help campuses and our
students.”
“We
appreciated having the opportunity to interact with the new Chancellor,” said
Belsky. “Her willingness to engage SUNY student reporters helps to foster
serious dialogue on the issues confronting students at our 64 campuses. In
addition, Chancellor Zimphers’ decision to hold her first press conference
exclusively for students highlights her commitment to listening to our voices
as she begins her leadership of the SUNY system.”
