SUNY Board of Trustees Approves the Appointment of Jack F

Albany – The State University of New York Board of Trustees today approved the appointment of Jack F. Quinn, Jr. as president of Erie Community College.

 

The Erie Community College Board of Trustees appointed Mr. Quinn president at its Jan. 30 meeting, at an annual salary of $185,000 per year, and effective April 7, 2008, or shortly thereafter as agreed upon by the campus Board of Trustees. The campus Board made this appointment after a 26-member presidential selection committee recommended him for the post.

“Erie Community College plays a critical and unique role in educating adults within the SUNY System.  Jack Quinn’s proven success in local community and at the national level makes him ideally qualified to lead the Erie campus, which is a top college choice of area high school students and offers the most affordable tuition in Western New York,” said SUNY Board Chairman Carl T. Hayden. “Warm congratulations for Mr. Quinn are well in order.”


“Jack Quinn’s wealth of experience in serving the people of Western New York through his local government and Washington positions promises to bring great perspective and benefit to the Erie Community College campus and surrounding communities,” said Chancellor Clark. “I am pleased the Board of Trustees has today confirmed his appointment as president and look forward to working more closely with him in this capacity.”

Quinn said, “I am honored to have been granted the opportunity to serve as president of Erie Community College. I would like to thank the ECC Board of Trustees for bringing ECC to where it is today and I am proud to be a member of that team as we move forward into the future. I will work diligently to make ECC the best place for the residents of Western New York to get a high quality, affordable education and learn the skills they need to be successful in the classroom, the workplace and beyond.”

Chancellor Clark also thanked William D. Reuter, for his service as Interim President at ECC since Jan. 1, 2007. Reuter, who had served as the chief administrative and financial officer at ECC, since 1998, will return to this position when Quinn takes office.

Quinn has been president of Cassidy & Associates, a government relations firm, in Washington, D.C. since 2005.  He previously served as a Republican Congressman for the 27th District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993-2004.

 

He was also Supervisor of the Town of Hamburg from 1984-1992. Quinn taught English at Orchard Park Middle School from 1973-1983. Quinn earned a bachelor’s degree in English education from Siena College and a master’s degree in English education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

 

Quinn is currently director of the compensation and governance committees at Kaiser Aluminum Corporation; director of the Program on Science in the Public Interest at Georgetown University; corporate advisory board member of the So Others May Eat program; director of fundraising of the American Ireland Fund; trustee, AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust and a board director of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation. He resides in Alexandria, Va. and in Hamburg, NY.
