Albany – Two SUNY campuses, Geneseo (6th) and Binghamton (7th), have been ranked among the top 10 best values for public campuses in the nation by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.

According to the publication, “Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has named the 100 best values in public colleges, ranking four-year schools that combine outstanding economic value with top-notch education.”

Kiplinger’s also ranked Binghamton (1st) and Geneseo (2nd) as the two best values in the nation for out-of-state students.

Other SUNY campuses placing in Kiplinger’s 100 Best Values include Stony Brook University (39th), the College at Oneonta (54th), the University at Buffalo (59th), the University at Albany (67th), the Colleges at Fredonia, New Paltz and Plattsburgh (77th, 78th, 79th), the College at Brockport (82nd), and the College at Cortland (95th).

“Access to a high-quality affordable education has never been more important,” said SUNY Interim Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark.  “SUNY campus presidents, their students faculty and staff are to be commended for achieving national recognition.”

“These rankings are further proof that public higher education at SUNY delivers a world-class education,” said SUNY Provost Risa Palm. “In these uncertain economic times, these rankings are a reminder that investing in public higher education pays real educational and economic dividends for our students and for the long-term growth of our state.”

This is exciting for not only the University, but for students and parents considering Binghamton,” said President Lois B. DeFleur. “These rankings provide important validation for all of our hard work to provide an excellent education as well as an exceptional value for students and their families.”

“This is yet another indicator of Geneseo’s strength as one of the country’s outstanding public liberal arts colleges,” said SUNY Geneseo President Christopher C. Dahl.  “The Kiplinger recognition comes in the midst of a turbulent economy when students and parents both inside and outside of New York are taking hard looks at options for quality higher education that won’t break the bank. Geneseo is a highly desirable option for the best and brightest students in the country seeking an exceptional and affordable liberal arts education.”

According to Kiplinger’s, the criteria used to rank the campuses are academic quality, cost, and financial aid.  The top 100 campuses were selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities.
