New York City – The SUNY Board of Trustees today approved the
appointment of Dr. Ann
Marie Murray as President of Herkimer County Community College, at a salary of
$130,000, effective August 11, 2008, as approved by the Board of Trustees at
the College in May.
Dr. Murray currently is the vice president for academic
affairs at Broome Community College, a post she has held since 2005. In
that capacity, she has been responsible for the oversight of all of the
academic programs and functions of the college, including schools of business,
liberal arts and human services, and applied science, continuing education,
international education, learning resource center, teaching resource center,
and online learning. Dr. Murray will replace Ronald
F. Williams, who served 22 years as president of HCCC.
SUNY Board of Trustees Chairman Carl T. Hayden said, “Herkimer County Community College recently celebrated 40 years of service to families and businesses in
the Mohawk Valley, where the campus provides accessible and affordable
education and training to thousands of students each year. I am very confident
that the search committee has found the ideal candidate to carry on the
Herkimer tradition. On behalf of the Board and SUNY System Administration, I
also wish to thank Ron Williams for his long and esteemed service as the
campus’ president.”
Interim SUNY Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark said, “Dr. Murray’s wealth of
experience in the community college sector – particularly at two of SUNY’s
strongest campuses – is certain to bring great benefit to HCCC students,
faculty and staff as well as the surrounding community. It has been my pleasure
to recommend that this appointment and I commend the Board of Trustees at SUNY
for naming Dr. Murray to this important position.”
Dr. Murray

my ability to serve Herkimer County Community College as its third president. I

as the community, to meet the challenges of moving this fine institution into
the future.”
About Dr.
Ann Marie Murray
Dr. Murray’s accomplishments at BCC include developing a five-year academic
programming plan, completion of Middle States Periodic Review and SUNY Mission
Review II, academic program development, establishing an Office of
International Education, advanced online course development, and creating a
STEM program for high school faculty. As vice president for academic affairs at
BCC, she is integrally involved in strategic planning, enrollment management,
budget development and management, assessment, grant development, and
collective bargaining.
Prior to
joining the staff at BCC, Dr. Murray enjoyed a 23-year history of success at Hudson Valley Community College. Her last post at that college was as Dean of Business and
Engineering and Industrial Technologies (2004-2005), where she was responsible
for accomplishments in academic strategic planning, student outcomes
assessment, five new major program initiatives (including Semiconductor
Manufacturing Technology), grants and accreditation.
Prior to
her role as Dean at Hudson Valley, she served as Associate Dean of Academic
Services (2001-2005), Department Chair of Mathematics and Engineering Science
(1998-2001), Program Director of a FIPSE-funded project in mathematics
(1995-1997), and successful service as a full-time faculty member in
mathematics (1982-1998).
Dr. Murray
has an excellent record of academic publication and successful grant seeking –
one grant to which she was a major contributor (Title III) was valued at over
$1.8 million. She has received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in
Teaching (1997) and has made numerous presentations on topics in her field of
mathematics, in education and on community colleges. She participated in the
AACC Future Leaders Institute-Advanced in 1997.
She has
served in various capacities in community service, including her current
service on the Board of Trustees of United Way of Binghamton as well as
consulting activities for the NYS Education Department.
Dr. Ann
Marie Murray holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, a Certificate of
Advanced Study, Education Theory and Practice, a Master of Science in Instructional
Technology, and a Master of Arts in Advanced Classroom Teaching (Mathematics
concentration) from the University at Albany. In addition, she earned a
Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics degree from Mount Saint Mary College.
The Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees conducted a national
search to identify an individual to serve as President of Herkimer County
Community College. A search committee which was representative of all major
college constituencies recommended seven candidates to the Board of Trustees
and those candidates visited the campus and were interviewed by the Board of
Trustees. Three finalists were selected and interviewed by the board and other
members of the campus community. Subsequently, the Herkimer County Community
College Board of Trustees adopted a resolution appointing Dr. Ann Marie Murray
as President.
