Albany -- The SUNY Board of Trustees appointed Philip W. Wood Vice Chancellor
for Capital Facilities, effective November 27, 2007. Mr. Wood will continue to
serve as General Manager of the State University Construction Fund, a position
he has served in since July 2003.
“Phil’s
knowledge and experience these past four years has transformed the Capital
Facilities area and has served SUNY System and our 64 campuses extremely well,”
said SUNY Interim Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark. “I am very pleased to have him
appointed in this capacity and expect great things from him.”
“SUNY must
have its facilities in a good state of repair in order for students, faculty
and staff to meet the university’s educational, public service and research
missions,” said Wood. “Through the creation of the Office of Capital
Facilities, SUNY will be in a stronger position to assist the campuses with improving
facilities to enhance academic excellence. I look forward to working with the
campuses as we meet the challenges before us and I appreciate the confidence of
Interim Chancellor Clark and the Board of Trustees.”
Since 2003,
Mr. Wood has functioned as chief executive officer of the Fund and reported to
the Fund Board of Trustees. The Fund manages the funding, planning,
design and construction of projects within SUNY’s $3.2 billion Educational
Facilities Capital Plan and the $400 million SUNY Hospital Capital Plan.
In his
capacity as Fund General Manager, Mr. Wood has led the planning, development,
justification and implementation of SUNY’s capital program which is more than
double the size of the previous program.
From 1998 –
2003, Mr. Wood served as Deputy Executive Director at the Dormitory
Authority.
SUNY is
re-establishing an Office of Capital Facilities. Previously, the posts of vice
chancellor of Capital Facilities and the general manager of the Fund were held
by the same individual to increase coordination and alignment between the two
entities and to better serve the campuses. The Office of Capital
Facilities responsibilities will include capital planning, coordination of SUNY’s
four capital programs, environmental health and safety, permitting, and energy
management.
He will
receive a salary of $220,000 for serving in both positions.
Mr. Wood
earned a Masters of Business Administration at the State University of New York
at Albany in 1984, and a Bachelor of Arts at Siena College in 1976.
