Statement from SUNY Chancellor Ryan on the Executive Budget

“Governor Spitzer’s Executive Budget proposal provides the State University with fiscal stability, modest growth, holds the line on tuition strengthens the faculty and continues investment in the University’s capital construction and deferred maintenance needs.

“We applaud the governor's establishment of the ‘Commission on Public Higher Education’ which will help chart a course for SUNY to move from a very good system of public higher education to a great system.

“Governor Spitzer has highlighted the importance of accountability in his budget message, and we at State University will show through our ongoing transparency and assessment practices that the state's investment in public higher education is being well spent.

“We look forward to working with the governor and the Legislature throughout the budget process. With this budget proposal we are off to a good start at our 64 state-operated campuses and community colleges to ensure we provide a high-quality education to our record-breaking 418,000 students, a well-trained workforce to enable businesses to prosper in New York and a growing research enterprise of international quality, which leads to innovation, job creation and economic growth.”
