December 30, 2009

Statement from Chancellor Nancy L

"On behalf of The State University of New York, it is with deep sorrow that I extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Percy Sutton on the recent news of his passing.”

“SUNY benefited tremendously from Percy Sutton’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged New Yorkers, particularly through his vision in creating the Educational Opportunity Program (
EOP) while serving in the New York State Assembly.”

“Today, EOP enrolls over 10,000 students at SUNY and is an essential part of our promise to New Yorkers to provide accessible and affordable higher education.”

"As a civil rights leader, as a politician, and as an advocate for greater opportunities for all New Yorkers, Percy Sutton’s legacy will continue to be felt for generations, and we salute his vast contributions.”
