Chancellor Zimpher To Discuss College Costs at National Summit

October 17, 2012

New York City – State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher tomorrow morning will join national leaders in higher education, government, philanthropy, and business at the TIME Summit of Higher Education at the Time Warner Center in New York City.

The summit, billed as a national discussion on the current state of higher education and the critical challenges that lie ahead, is hosted by TIME, Carnegie Corporation of New York, Time Warner, Inc., and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Chancellor Zimpher will serve on the panel entitled, “The Real Cost of College: The Economics of Higher Education.” This is a unique opportunity for SUNY to showcase its role as a national leader in addressing college costs. In September, Chancellor Zimpher launched the SUNY Smart TrackSM campaign which, in addition to establishing SUNY as the first in the nation to adopt the Federal Financial Aid Shopping Sheet, also expands SUNY’s Student Loan Service Center, lays the groundwork for early engagement, enhances the net price calculator, and calls for the development of a one-stop online hub for financial aid resources.

Also serving on the panel are: Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University, Scott Cowen, president of Tulane University; André Dua, director of McKinsey & Company; Honorable James B. Hunt, Jr., chairman of James B. Hunt, Jr. Institute for Educational Leadership & Policy and former governor of North Carolina; Honorable Thomas H. Kean, former governor of New Jersey; and Harold T. Shapiro, professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University.

A complete agenda for the Summit is available online.

Chancellor Zimpher is available for interviews on the topic of college cost from both a national and New York State perspective.
