SUNYNet Videoconference ServicesTo schedule meetings or discuss options, call SUNYNet: 518-320-1202 University Video Conference System SUNYNet operates a network of videoconferencing facilities called the University Videoconference System (UVCS). We and our partner sites offer videoconferencing over a special video sub-network of SUNYNet. Our primary locations are: ALBANY: State University Plaza, Broadway & State St.
We also have the ability to call other systems via IP or ISDN within SUNY and world-wide and partner with most SUNY campuses. We are able to coordinate a meeting for you in nearly every part of the State. These 4 primary UVCS sites are appropriate for business-quality videoconferences with as many as a dozen participant seats per site. Meetings are available during standard business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Our policy has been not to charge SUNY for use of these sites when conferencing with one or more of the other UVCS sites. Extra staff attention, special configurations and dialing non-UVCS sites, etc. is charged. We have also allowed governmental and non-profit organizations to use the UVCS for $75 per hour, per site. Other charges may be required. We provide estimates when discussing your needs. UVCS is designed for meetings. It is not a network of distance learning rooms. It is used mostly by groups with membership spread across the State. Our rooms in Albany, Buffalo, New York City, and Syracuse are interconnected like components of SUNYNet, which means they are always connected and can all communicate with each other simultaneously. The rooms are also used independently of the UVCS for non-video purposes and are able to dial to non-UVCS sites. UVCS provides business/teaching quality videoconferencing (speeds of 384Kbps+) over a homogeneous system that is easy to schedule and use, highly reliable and stable, and consistent in its operation from one site to another. We can operate it in a standard setup mode without much staff oversight, a feature that has been critical to our maintaining low error rates and low charging rates. Please note: SUNYNet offers its videoconferencing services primarily for SUNY-related use, and occasionally to other educational and government institutions. We do not offer our services for private/for-profit business uses.
