Case 8:   Customized private link.
Non-exclusive Case, may be applied with any other. The diagram shows it with Case 10, i.e. with no other services from SUNYNet. (see drawing, below)

Listing of Cases

Method of delivering customized private networking:
The campus uses SUNYNet for customized data communications. The customized link may be for non-routed protocols, such as IBM 3270 or H.320 videoconferencing. Or, it could be for an advanced routed protocol, such IPv6 or a gateway to an Internet2 campus. SUNYNet provides (but does not pay for) the necessary communications equipment (tan box) on the campus and the customized link (gray-dotted line) between the campus and another site (which could be a non-SUNY site). The tan box is a digital line termination box, such as a CSU/DSU, multiplexer, or special router. It connects to a leased line that terminates at another site.

Method of delivering Internet and intranet and Roles of the Routers:
This case can be added to any of the others. Shown here, it is applied to Case 10, in which no other service is obtained from/through SUNYNet. See other Cases for a description of routers and Internet and implications of not using AT&T.
