Nirvi Shah is the deputy editor for policy for POLITICO Pro.

She recently served as Pro Education Editor, launching POLITICO's coverage of education politics and policy in July 2013.

Before joining POLITICO, she worked as special education and school climate and culture reporter at Education Week, covering school safety, health, discipline and nutrition. Her work exposed flaws in federal data collection about schools' use of suspension and expulsion and drew attention to the uneven use of these disciplinary practices.

She previously covered education and other topics at The Miami Herald. Before that, she wrote about education and municipal government for The Palm Beach Post. At the Herald and the Post, Shah won a number of education reporting awards. And in 2006, Shah and two Post colleagues won a Society of Professional Journalists Green Eyeshade award in deadline reporting for coverage of a South Florida military unit's crude videos of Iraqis.

Shah got her start covering education at her hometown newspaper, The (Lakeland, Fla.) Ledger, her first job after graduating from the University of Florida.
