Albany – State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher today announced that she will recommend that the Board of Trustees appoint Valerie B. Nixon as interim president of Alfred State College. The Board will consider this appointment at its meeting Wednesday. Nixon is currently executive vice president at Alfred State.

“Valerie Nixon is a long-time member of Alfred State’s leadership team with more than 25 years of administrative experience in higher education,” said Chancellor Zimpher. “She is ideally suited to step up and serve as president of the campus in the interim, and I share in the trust and confidence that Alfred State students, faculty, and staff have in her ability to do so.”

Chancellor Zimpher also stated that she has already communicated with Patricia K. Fogarty, Chair of the Alfred State College Council, and that preparations for a prompt national presidential search are underway.

Nixon said, “I’m honored by Chancellor Zimpher’s recommendation and look forward to working with the Alfred State community in continuing the excellent progress the College has made under Dr. Anderson’s leadership.”

If approved, Nixon’s appointment would be effective April 1, 2013, until a permanent president is appointed. She would earn a salary of $170,000.

John Anderson, who has served as Alfred State College’s president since 2008 recently accepted a position as president of Millersville University.
