Statement of SUNY Board Chairman Carl T. Hayden and Chancellor Nancy Zimpher

October 07, 2009

Statement of SUNY Board Chairman Carl T

Albany - The State University of New York is committed to a comprehensive review and investigation of all aspects of the Binghamton University Athletic Program.

This review and investigation, which will be conducted under the auspices of the Executive Committee of the SUNY Board of Trustees, must be led by an individual of unquestioned experience, skill and integrity.

We are pleased that the Honorable Judith Kaye, Retired Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, our State's highest court, has agreed to lead the review and investigation.  Judge Kaye, who retired from the bench at the end of 2008, is now of counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York City.

We anticipate Judge Kaye will provide the Board of Trustees with a report and recommendations that will enable us to address all issues related to the Binghamton athletic program and restore full public confidence in the University.

“I am pleased to be assisting the State University of New York in this important matter,” Judge Kaye stated. “I look forward to working with the SUNY Board of Trustees and Chancellor Nancy Zimpher to conduct a thorough and comprehensive review and investigation and to report my findings and recommendations as expeditiously as possible.”
