SUNY Board of Trustees Approves the Appointment of Dr. Carol Brown as President of North Country Community College

New York City - The State University of New York Board of Trustees today voted to approve the appointment of Dr. Carol Brown as president of North Country Community College. Brown’s appointment is effective August 31, 2009. She will earn an annual salary of $145,000.

Following a national search, the North Country Community College Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Brown to serve as the college’s fifth president on May 16, 2009. She currently serves as the Special Assistant to the Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, Texas.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher said, “It is my pleasure to recommend Dr. Brown as SUNY’s newest community college president. Her years of experience as a president, administrator, educator and community partner make her an ideal candidate to lead the North Country campus. I look forward to working with Dr. Brown as we develop a strategic plan for SUNY.”

“It is my honor to welcome Dr. Brown, a New Paltz graduate, back to the SUNY System,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Carl T. Hayden. “I would like to thank the search committee for finding us an excellent candidate and also Frederick Smith for serving as the campus’ interim president for the past year.”

Dr. Brown said, “It is an honor and privilege to join the State University of New York and North Country Community College.  Working together and in the North Country community, we will build upon the rich past as we continue to be an important part of Essex and Franklin counties and our region. My husband Greg and I are looking forward to our move to one of the most beautiful regions of the country."

About Carol Brown

Dr. Brown has served as President of Eastfield College in Texas, President of Waukesha County Technical College in Wisconsin, Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs at Oakland Community College, Michigan, and Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at the Orchard Ridge campus of Oakland Community College.  In addition, Dr. Brown has served as a department chair and instructor of history at Houston Community College in Texas. 

Dr. Brown has received awards and recognition to include the Technical Excellence Award from the National Association for Printing Leadership and the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Hall of Fame for Administrators.  Her community involvement includes serving on civic and community boards to include Chambers of Commerce, United Way, La Casa de Esperanza and Girl Scouts.

Dr. Brown received her doctorate in Higher Adult Learning from Michigan State University, Master of Arts in American History from Catholic University, and a Bachelor of Arts in secondary social studies from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
