Albany – The State University of New York
Board of Trustees today approved the appointment of Dr. Kevin E. Drumm as
President of Broome Community College.
Dr. Drumm was appointed
by the Broome Community College Board of Trustees Dec. 3, 2009, subject to
the approval of the SUNY Board. Dr. Drumm’s appointment is effective Feb. 1,
2010.
“Dr.
Drumm’s extensive experience and a leader, educator and mentor, particularly in
the community college sector, make him the right choice for Broome Community College,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “With the announcement of the
Governor’s Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act and SUNY’s
strategic planning efforts underway, Dr. Drumm’s leadership could not have come
at a more opportune time. I commend the Boards of Trustees at BCC and at SUNY
for this outstanding appointment.”

Daniel T. Hayes, who served as interim presidents while the search for a
permanent president was carried out.”

About
Dr. Kevin Drumm
Dr.
Drumm has served as President and Chief Executive of the Northern Wyoming
Community College District since 2004. His accomplishments there include
achieving a graduation rate among the highest in the nation and becoming one of
the nation’s fastest growing colleges, increasing foundation assets by $9
million, increasing capital financing to over $100 million raised publicly and
privately, developing partnerships with local school districts, leading the
construction of a new academic facility, adding 16 new academic programs and a
full-time faculty with one of the best faculty to student ratios in the nation,
securing funding and construction residence halls, founding industry training
initiatives, establishing articulation partnerships with area universities,
strategic planning, and spearheading community development initiatives.
Prior to
his tenure as President in Wyoming, Dr. Drumm served from 1998 to 2004 as Vice
President for Enrollment Management and Student and Public Affairs at Springfield Technical Community College, Massachusetts. There he helped the college
achieve record enrollments for five consecutive years, substantially expanded
course offerings, expanded partnerships in the community, developed the
college’s first Adult Education Program and Center, greatly expanded services
to disabled students, helped implement a formal shared governance structure,
and engaged in advancing the national image of the college.
Previous
positions include Regional Vice President, Student Affairs and Enrollment
Management at New Hampshire Community Technical College (1996-1998), Assistant
Professor of Education and Management, Assistant Academic Dean for Distance
Education and Interim Dean of Students at St. Joseph’s College in Maine
(1994-1996), Director of Title III/Academic Support and Outreach Centers at
NOVA Southeastern University (1992-1994), and Association Executive Director
and Director of Off-Campus Education at the Community College of Maine
(1989-1992), Doctoral Fellow/Coordinator of the Graduate Internship Program in
Higher Education at New York University (1986-1989), Director of Student Life
and Director of Residence Life at the University of New England in Maine
(1982-1986), and Director of Student Activities and Athletics at Bunker Hill
Community College in Boston (1980-1982).
At every
college where he has served, Dr. Drumm has also served as an adjunct professor,
teaching various management courses. In addition his professional and
community involvements are extensive. Most recently, he has served in various
leadership capacities, including chairman of the Wyoming Presidents’ Council,
member of the WY Community College Commission Executive Council, Chair of the
ACCT Presidents’ Advisory Council, and member of the AACC Commission on
Academic, Student and Community Development. He is appointed by the Governor
of Wyoming to the Wyoming Workforce Development Council and the Wyoming PBS
Board of Advisors, as well as serving on the Wyoming Community College
Commission Statewide Strategic Planning Council and on the boards of directors
of numerous community-based organizations.
Dr.
Drumm’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Organizational Studies:
Higher Education and Community College Leadership from New York University, a Master’s in Education in Educational Leadership and Systems Development from Boston University, a Bachelor of Science in Education from Boston University, and an Associate
in Arts from Berkshire Community College.
Dr.
Drumm has published several articles and made numerous presentations on topics
of interest to community colleges. He has received numerous distinguished
service and academic awards, scholarships and fellowships throughout his
career.
Dr.
Drumm replaces Dr. John W. Deans, who has been serving as interim president
since July 2009. Previously, Dr. Daniel T. Hayes
also served as interim president, beginning Sept. 2008.Dr. Lawrence Spraggs,
who retired in June 2008, was the last permanent president of the campus.
