Albany – The State University
of New York Board of Trustees today appointed Dr. William J. Murabito interim
president of Morrisville State College, effective January 7, 2013. Dr. Murabito
is the current interim president of Sullivan County Community College.
“Dr. Murabito has extensive
knowledge of SUNY and years of leadership experience within our 64-campus
system,” said Board Chairman H. Carl McCall. “We are highly confident that his
service as interim president at Morrisville State College will be of great
value to the system, to the campus, and most importantly, to Morrisville’s
students, faculty, and staff.”
“Dr. Murabito is an ideal
candidate to lead Morrisville State College while permanent leadership for the
campus continues to be reviewed by the Board, in collaboration with all of the
college’s stakeholders on campus and in the community,” said SUNY Chancellor
Nancy L. Zimpher. “I commend the Board for this appointment and look forward to
working more closely with Dr. Murabito in this new capacity.”
“I have been a part of SUNY
for many years, first as a student and then as an administrator in roles across
the system, and I am excited to continue my service as the interim president at
Morrisville,” said Murabito. “I look forward to taking on this new challenge of
providing steady leadership and ensuring quality academics while helping to
drive important, cost-saving shared service initiatives that will provide
direct benefits to the Morrisville campus.”
“I thank the Chancellor for
the opportunity to serve the students, faculty and staff of Morrisville State College,
and I am grateful to the Morrisville community for its cooperation, commitment,
and hard work during my time as Officer-in-Charge,” said Bjong Wolf Yeigh, who
has led the Morrisville campus since October 2011. “Interim President Murabito
and the Morrisville community have my full support. Just as we have in the
past, SUNYIT and Morrisville will continue to work together to best serve
students at both institutions and the people of New York State.”
On July 15, the three Campus
Alliance pairings at SUNY Delhi/SUNY Cobleskill, Morrisville State
College/SUNYIT and SUNY Canton/SUNY Potsdam submitted shared services reports
to the Board for review. The Board’s review of those reports is ongoing. Today,
the Board discussed the possibility of initiating a search for a permanent
president of Morrisville in the Fall, but no final decision has been made.
The Morrisville State College
Council interviewed Dr. Murabito in anticipation of his appointment as interim
president and fully supported his appointment. As interim president, Murabito
will earn a State salary of $175,000.
