SUNY Board Appoints Joel Pierre-Louis as Secretary of the University

Albany – The State University of New York Board of Trustees this week appointed Joel Pierre-Louis as secretary of the university. In this capacity, Pierre-Louis will serve as SUNY’s senior liaison to the members of the Board, and manage the Board office.

“We are very pleased that Joel will be returning to SUNY System Administration as secretary of the university,” said Board Chairman H. Carl McCall. “Joel is a true product of SUNY, having earned his bachelor’s degree from the University Albany and serving as a member of our legal team at System Administration for 10 years. His administrative experience gained at DASNY in the years since is certain to provide the SUNY Board with excellent counsel and support. We look forward to working with him.”

About Joel Pierre-Louis

Joel Pierre-Louis is currently the senior director of operations at the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, a position he has held since 2008 in which he is responsible for strategic planning and oversight of DASNY’s human resources, records management, risk management, operations, and building services functions.

For 10 years prior, from 1998 to 2008, Pierre-Louis served as associate counsel at SUNY System Administration, providing a range of strategic legal and policy analysis services to SUNY and the Board of Trustees as well as campuses across the system.

He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Cum Laude, from the University at Albany.
