Onondaga Community College professor sworn in as new SUNY Trustee

July 1, 2015

ALBANY, NY – Nina Tamrowski, newly elected president of the Faculty Council of Community Colleges and professor of political science at Onondaga Community College, was sworn in last week to the SUNY board of trustees.

Tamrowski’s two-year term as president of the Faculty Council begins July 1. Legislation passed in 2011 stipulates that the president of the Faculty Council is an ex-officio member of the board.

The board has a history of including faculty and student voices among its decision makers. The president of the University Faculty Senate, representing SUNY’s four-year schools, is also an ex-officio member and the president of the Student Assembly serves as student trustee.

Tamrowski praised the SUNY board and Chancellor Nancy Zimpher for their inclusion of faculty and students in policy-making at the nation’s largest public higher education system in the country. “I am privileged to be in this role representing community college faculty,” Tamrowski said. “Faculty expertise in determining curriculum and academic standards is ever-present in this model of shared governance.  Only through shared governance can we attain the best educational policies for our students and communities.”
