English language proficiency offerings at SUNY campuses are tailored to meet the diverse needs of the specific students and communities that they serve. These offerings range from a series of courses for students enrolled in academic programs to full-time, intensive programs. English language proficiency offerings are delivered in year-round, semester and summer formats with part-time and full-time options.
Instruction in listening and reading comprehension, and development of writing and speaking skills are offered at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Most focus on oral communication and academic writing to give students the skills and practice needed to succeed in university-level coursework. Instruction ranges from intensive language programs - intended especially for serious students who seek admission to an American university - to programs focused on English improvement for business, personal or professional reasons.
