Q:What types of undergraduate applications are available? How can I obtain an application?
A:SUNY applicants may choose between online, pdf, and paper applications. The online application is always available, the pdf can be downloaded at any time, and to request a paper application, complete an online inquiry form and an application and viewbook will be mailed to you. Current applications and viewbooks are available at most high schools in New York and in many schools in the Northeast.

Q:Does SUNY offer Early Decision or Early Action? What's the difference?
A:Several SUNY campuses offer either early decision or early action. Early decision is a binding program for fall freshmen and can be used for one college choice only. The participating schools are: Buffalo State College, University at Buffalo, NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Cortland, Fredonia, Geneseo, Old Westbury, Oswego, Plattsburgh and Purchase. Early decision applications are due November 1. If admitted, you will be asked to make a tuition deposit by January 15 and withdraw all other college applications.
Early action is a non-binding early application/notification program for fall freshman available at Albany, Environmental Science and Forestry, New Paltz, and Oneonta. To apply, your application must be received by November 15. If accepted, you will have until May 1 to finalize your enrollment decision.

Q:What happens to my application once I submit or mail it?
A:Your application is first received at the Application Services Center in Albany. At this time, one application will be prepared and forwarded to each of the colleges to which you are applying. If supporting documentation, i.e., transcripts, essays, etc. is received with your application, it will also be forwarded to your campus choices. Your entire application is then carefully evaluated by admissions officers at each university or college to which you are applying.

Q:What is the deadline for applying to SUNY?
A:While there is no official deadline for applying as a regular decision applicant to SUNY, we do encourage applicants to submit their application as soon as possible. When campuses or particular academic programs are full for a certain semester, no further applications will be accepted. The sooner an applicant applies, the less likely he/she will be closed out of a program at a particular campus. Freshman applicants utilizing Early Decision or Early Action do have deadlines. See the FAQ relating to this topic.
