Dr. James Weyhenmeyer, Research Foundation of SUNY

Dr. Weyhenmeyer is an experienced senior administrator having held several executive administrative appointments, including Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Vice President for Economic Development and Corporate Relations. He was the founding CEO/Managing Director of Illinois VENTURES, LLC, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on the development of technology-based companies. He is also a serial entrepreneur, having served in management positions for companies in the medical device, drug delivery and drug development sectors. Dr. Weyhenmeyer is an accomplished scientist having published widely in the areas of cardiovascular and stroke research. |
He currently holds appointments as Professor of Biological Sciences at the University at Albany and Adjunct Professor of Cell Biology, Neuroscience and Pathology and Affiliate Faculty in the Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois. He is a member of several honorary societies, including the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Dr. Weyhenmeyer received his Ph.D. from Indiana University.
Dr. Weyhenmeyer is the Senior Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development at the State University of New York (SUNY) and the Senior Vice President for Research at the Research Foundation of SUNY with responsibility for SUNY’s research, technology transfer and affiliated corporations portfolios. Prior to joining SUNY, Dr. Weyhenmeyer was Interim Vice President for Technology and Economic Development at the University of Illinois. He also served as the principal of the member for the University’s limited liability companies, Illinois VENTURES, LLC and the University of Illinois Research Park, LLC, and the Director of the University of Illinois Research Park. In addition, he was the Executive Director of the East Central Illinois Technology Enterprise Center, a publically financed business development corporation with investment capacity.
