Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention
The State University of New York will work with our campus leaders, educators and students to support best practices, research, and connection to community resources to address the deleterious impact of substance abuse on students and the campus community. Regional and state-wide professional associations provide an opportunity for professional development, the use of shared resources, and the promotion of best practices to address substance abuse and related issues that impact student health and success.
The State University has identified core elements of policies and practice:
- The establishment of the State University of New York Personal Safety Committee to review specific areas of student safety issues.
- Timely and clear information to new students about drug and alcohol issues, the campus code of student conduct, and the legal and judicial sanctions for drug and alcohol violations.
- Continuous professional development for campus staff in the areas of substance abuse prevention, intervention, and education.
- Campus – Community coalitions to support prevention and intervention efforts.
- Campus adherence to Federal and State policies and procedures including the timely reporting of crimes.
