STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK PRESS (SUNY Press)

Program Description

An acclaimed international publisher of distinguished research and notable works of general interest since 1966, SUNY Press supports the commitments of the State University of New York to teaching, research, and public service. The Press’s mission emphasizes service to three key stakeholder audiences:  the SUNY community; the academic and scholarly community; and -- through its trade imprint and partnerships with cultural and community organizations -- the broader general public, especially throughout New York State.

 SUNY Press sponsors nationally recognized and rapidly growing lists of scholarly publications in the areas of philosophy,  Jewish studies, religion, Asian studies, political science, transpersonal psychology, women's studies, queer studies, African American studies, Italian American studies, and indigenous studies. Through its Excelsior Editions trade imprint, SUNY Press makes available exceptional works for all readers and showcases the diversity and abiding energy of the peoples, histories, and natural beauty of the New York region.
 

Program Overview

Capitalizing on the latest advances in digital communication, the Press offers an innovative range of print and electronic publications to fulfill the evolving needs of scholars, students, authors, and readers. SUNY Press publishes a list of approximately 150 titles each year, and currently has over 5,000 titles in print.

SUNY Press extends its outreach to a broad and diverse community through a range of publishing partnerships. The Press has a growing network of community-based partners, including the Albany Institute of History & Art, the Iroquois Indian Museum, the New York State Capitol Commission, Rensselaer County Historical Society, and the Saratoga Automobile Museum. Current SUNY-based partners include the Fernand Braudel Center at Binghamton University, the University Art Museum at the University at Albany, the Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology at the University at Buffalo, and the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz.

The Press’s Advisory Board is comprised of faculty from campuses throughout the SUNY system. The Press has agreements with several print-on-demand and electronic vendors, including Lightning Source Inc., NetLibrary, Google and Amazon.com, and has sales representation on six continents.  SUNY Press is a proud member of the Association of American University Presses.
