 SUNYConnect Library Initiative

SUNYConnect is a joint initiative of the SUNY Provost’s Office of Library and Information Services and the libraries of the SUNY campuses to share collections and services across the SUNY System; a common library managment system, now in place across 57 campuses, allows universal access to over 18 million volumes and thousands of electronic resources and digital images.

SUNYConnect integrates the newest technology-based library and information systems with traditional library resources to provide an extensive, up-to-date teaching and learning environment.

At the heart of the SUNYConnect initiative are the SUNY libraries, which provide a wealth of information resources and services tailored to meet the needs of their students, faculty, staff and surrounding communities. Access to most library resources, including all electronic journals and databases, are best channeled through the campus library web environments.

The SUNYConnect initiative includes an online union catalog of library materials held within the SUNY system. The catalog currently holds records for over 18 million volumes available within SUNY libraries.

The SUNYConnect initiative also provides a University-wide Digital Repository program. The Digital Repository program provides technology infrastructure to improve access to and preservation of SUNY produced digital content. Many of the collections within the Digital Repository program are freely available, while the use of other collections is restricted to the SUNY system or individual campuses.
