GEAR UP

Opportunity Programs also coordinates the University's role as sector partner to GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) projects throughout the State. The  SUNY NY GEAR-UP is a national initiative designed to create an interest in acquiring a college education among economically disadvantaged and therefore at-risk students in New York State. SUNY provides students with college oriented academic advisement during their high school years, counseling assistance, financial aid information, financial aid advisement, and academic incentives. SUNY also facilitates the development of the necessary skills that will lead to applying to and enrolling in college, including the process of selecting a college. Of paramount importance in NY GEAR-UP is providing a foundation that will allow these students the opportunity to achieve the desired outcomes of persistence in college and graduation.
