Offices Reporting to ODEE

In addition to the above programs and initiatives administered directly by ODEE, several programs administered by the Office of Opportunity Programs and the University Center for Academic and Workforce Development support ODEE's mission by providing access, support, training, technology, and financial aid to educationally and economically disadvantaged New Yorkers.

Office of Opportunity Programs

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP): Provides access, academic support, and financial aid to students who show promise for mastering college-level work but may otherwise not be admitted. Offered primarily to full-time students who are New York State residents, EOP serves students who meet economic and academic qualifications.

Graduate Opportunity Program (GOP) and Economically Disadvantaged First Professional Study (EDPS): Provide tuition waivers for economically disadvantaged students to undertake graduate level study. GOP waivers support students at any level of study beyond the baccalaureate, and EDPS waivers support students in first professional programs.

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (Gear Up): As part of a national effort, the purpose of NYGEAR UP (in conjunction with the lead agency, Higher Education Services Corporation) is to create the aspiration for higher education among 4,000 at-risk eighth grade students in New York State, and provide them with the guidance, incentives, skills, and knowledge that will aid them in gaining admission to college and succeeding once they are there.

University Center for Academic and Workforce Development

Educational Opportunity Centers/Counseling and Outreach Centers: The statewide network of ten Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) and two Counseling and Outreach Centers have pioneered the way in providing urban communities with innovative academic programs leading to higher education, and vocational training programs leading to gainful employment.

Bridge Program: A performance based program that uses performance measures consistent with the Workforce Investment Act, validated skill standards and continuous improvement concepts. All Bridge programs and services are work focused with gainful employment as the primary outcome.

Advanced Technology Training and information Networking (ATTAIN): A statewide technology initiative with over 30 locations throughout New York, ATTAIN provides communities access to new technologies, education, and technology training that increase employment opportunities and wage prospects.

Jobs for Youth Apprenticeship Program (JFYAP): Prepares "at-risk" economically disadvantaged in-school and out-of-school youth for entry into skilled occupations, apprenticeship or post-secondary education.
