Provost Invites NominationsDATE: August 22, 2013
TO: Presidents, State University of New York
FROM: Elizabeth Bringsjord, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor
SUBJECT: Call for Nominations, Distinguished Faculty Ranks for Academic Years 2013-2014 and 2014-2015
On behalf of Chancellor Zimpher and the SUNY Board of Trustees, I am pleased to invite nominations for candidates for appointment to one of four Distinguished Faculty Rank designations: Distinguished Professorship, Distinguished Service Professorship, Distinguished Teaching Professorship and Distinguished Librarian.
The Distinguished Professorship recognizes instructional faculty who have achieved national or international prominence through significant contributions to research and scholarship, or through artistic performance or achievement in the fine and performing arts. The Distinguished Service Professorship recognizes extraordinary service in the application of intellectual skills drawing from the faculty member’s scholarly and research interests to issues of public concern. The Distinguished Teaching Professorship recognizes a sustained record of outstanding teaching competence at the graduate, undergraduate or professional levels. The rank of Distinguished Librarian recognizes contributions that have been transformational in creating new information environments.
The Distinguished Faculty Rank is an academic rank above that of full professor and is conferred solely by the SUNY Board of Trustees. Distinguished Faculty are also members of the SUNY Distinguished Academy, which encourages a continued commitment to quality instruction, service to campuses and the State, and strong leadership development for newer faculty.
Attached are the Policies and Procedures for academic years 2013-14 and 2014-15 (available online at: http://www.suny.edu/provost/academic_affairs/Dist_Prof_Awards.cfm). Eligibility criteria and details on the number of nominations allowed are detailed in the attached. To facilitate timely review of nomination portfolios, please submit new submissions by Monday of the second week of September for a November decision, or Monday of the second week in March for a May decision. Late submissions may be considered in the next award cycle.
All nominations should be submitted via e-mail, using the format detailed in the appendix of the Policies and Procedure document, to: Awards@SUNY.edu. If you have any questions regarding these procedures or appointments, please contact Associate Provost Dr. Robert Kraushaar via e-mail.
I look forward to receiving your nominations for appointment to these prestigious designations.
