Nancy DiamondNancy Diamond is research associate professor in the College of Education and Social Services and special assistant to the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Vermont.  She has been engaged in the study of research universities for more than a decade, following a period of professional administrative service in higher education.  As co-author of The Rise of American Research Universities (Johns Hopkins Press, 1997), she has studied how institutions can expand research capacity and works as a consultant to universities that seek to advance their research/graduate education portfolio.  She also has proposed alternative ways for evaluating and ranking research achievement and served as a reviewer for the National Research Council.  Her current project, supported by the Andrew W.
