SUNY Forms Fifth Confucius InstituteIn Dec. 2010, SUNY formed the Confucius Institute for Business (CIB). The CIB, which is hosted by SUNY's Levin Institute and located at the SUNY Global Center in New York City, is the nation's first such establishment to focus exclusively on business and working professionals. This is the fifth Confucius Institute to open within SUNY, which operates more of these establishments than any educational system in the world. The other four SUNY Confucius Institutes are at University at Buffalo, Binghamton University, Stony Brook University, and the College of Optometry. The Confucius Institutes throughout SUNY embody The Power of SUNY and are models of the system's achievements and partnerships across the globe. Confucius Institutes are established under the aegis of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in Beijing, China, a public institution affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education. The new CIB will be developed in partnership with the Nanjing University of Finance and Economics (NUFE). Its focus will be on preparing the working business person with the language skills and cultural awareness necessary to be effective in building business relationships in and with China.
