Upstate University Hospital Opens Outpatient Center
SUNY’s Upstate University Hospital opened the Harrison Outpatient Surgery Center located in the downtown Syracuse medical complex in January 2011. The center was renamed the Upstate Outpatient Surgery Center and surgical cases in the new location began Jan. 20, 2011.
The new center provides Upstate with the capacity to perform more than 5,000 outpatient cases annually.
Upstate will perform procedures related to ear, nose and throat, gynecology, neurology neurosurgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, podiatry, urology, general surgery as well as pain management.
The space is 19,396 square feet and includes six operating suites, pre-care and recovery areas, plus an array of surgical equipment and technology.
Prior, most of Upstate’s cases that are considered outpatient surgery were performed in the operating suites located at the hospital. This new location will be more efficient and convenient for patients with plenty of off-street parking only steps away from the center. The acquisition of the center will also bring greater efficiencies to hospital operations.
