UAlbany RNA Institute Hosts Groundbreaking Human Disease Research

Launched June 4, 2010, the UAlbany RNA Institute is leveraging a new paradigm in drug discovery with the development and delivery of RNA-based therapeutics to treat infectious disease, various cancers, neurodegenerative disorders, and other illnesses, including orphan diseases.

In November 2010, the Institute received additional boost - a $5.37 million NIH grant, plus $2.5 million in New York matching funds, to support the creation of 60 permanent positions and five new laboratories, and achieve internationally recognized environmental certification.

The NIH grant, infused by funds from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will be complemented by $2 million from UAlbany and $537,000 from the State of New York, making total support for the project $7.9 million.
