Purchase Receives National Science Foundation Scholarship Grant

Purchase College President Thomas J. Schwarz announced in May 2011 that the National Science Foundation awarded a nearly $600,000 five-year Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Scholarship grant to the college. The nearly $600,000 five-year Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Scholarship grant, the college’s first, will provide annual scholarships to freshmen, transfer and continuing students.

The program will support academically talented and financially needy biochemistry, biology, and chemistry students. It will also fund four tutors each year for five years. The scholarships will enable students to complete a bachelor’s degree in these targeted disciplines and enter the work force or go on to post-graduate studies.  Scholarships will be awarded with an extra emphasis on strengthening the Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry programs.
