Welcome to the third SUNY Report Card. We have made some important updates in this version, but our commitments to transparency and using data to drive good decision making have not wavered. Nor has the way we look at our organizational commitment to building a more Competitive SUNY, driving an increasingly Competitive New York and ensuring that Diversity Counts in everything we do. Now to our changes: In version three, we have gone digital, to begin to deliver our most critical data to our decision makers, family and friends in a user friendly and accessible format. A Competitive SUNY is now presented using an interactive dashboard on our website. Each dashboard contains data from our baseline year (2008-09 unless otherwise noted) as well as two years of progress data. Each also contains information about the metric itself. Over time, we intend to connect that definitional information with stories about how we are working to improve our outcomes – all to show you how SUNY is moving from great to world-class.

We have begun this transition from print to direct reporting as a pilot, which we hope to perfect and implement across all three sections. In the meantime, you will find the two remaining sections – Diversity Counts and a Competitive New York – in PDF format with full data organized to look similar to the dashboard reports.

Of course data is difficult to interpret without context, which is why I encourage you to read our full strategic plan, The Power of SUNY as well as our previous two report cards. It is also important to understand how we intend to drive continuous improvement in each measure, so visit our working team web pages and register your opinions – I promise we are listening.

I urge you to get involved with SUNY. As a fellow New Yorker, a prospective student or parent, or a colleague in education, whatever your perspective, we are eager to engage with you. Explore our campuses, learn more about our work, and tell us about yourself.

Thank you for your interest in SUNY. We are The State University FOR New York.
