Paths to a Healthier New York

Paths to a Healthier New York

The State University of New York (SUNY) is committed to transformational initiatives that are grounded in research, focused on improving the outcomes of the system of education in New York State, and provide statewide frameworks to accelerate progress on the ground in all economic regions of the state. The Power of SUNY for a Healthier NY includes two initiatives: The Right Professionals in the Right Places and Tobacco-Free SUNY. Each of these initiatives seeks to leverage the intellectual capital of SUNY to address critical health care issues through workforce outreach; health improvement initiatives to support the physical and mental well-being of students and staff; and research.

Healthier NY Initiatives

The goal of the Healthier NY initiatives is to work towards communities where campuses promote good health and that the health care workforce that we graduate is poised to meet the community health care needs.

The Right Professionals in the Right Places (RP2), seeks to partner our SUNY institutions with the local, regional and state stakeholders to ensure that we are responsive to the recruitment and retraining needs of the health care sector. SUNY began with partnering with Adirondack providers and stakeholders in an October 2013 regional planning session to identify and respond to the unique priority health workforce needs in the region. SUNY remains committed to Tobacco-Free campus environments and will continue to work with the sponsors of our legislation to seek successful passage. In the meantime, campuses are persisting in designing and implementing strategies to drive their campuses toward the tobacco-free goal. SUNY sponsors educational sessions for the purposes of critical thinking and information sharing to assist in this process. Please visit Tobacco-free SUNY for more information.
