Tuition and fees at SUNY's colleges and universities are modest in comparison with private institutions, but not all of SUNY's 413,000 full- and part-time students can rely on family contributions to meet the gap between their own financial resources, including outside loans, and the full cost, including books and fees, of attending school.
To ensure that students who possess the ability and motivation to succeed are able to pursue an undergraduate or advanced degree, the State University must strengthen its financial aid program.
The State University of New York seeks annual gifts and endowments for undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships, as well as named loan funds, to be awarded on the basis of need and academic performance.

Faculty Enhance Scholarship A private investment in SUNY will continue to strengthen and maintain the quality of scholars, scientists, artists and professionals who define their institutions.

|
Retaining the very best and brightest scholars, scientists, artists and professionals who define their institutions is a continuing challenge. The campuses of the State University must ensure that faculty compensation and opportunities for professional development are on a par with other nationally recognized colleges and universities. Campuses also must be able to offer faculty excellent facilities, equipment and seed funding for their teaching, research and scholarly pursuits.
The most effective way to recognize and to reward distinguished teaching and scholarship is through endowments - whether endowed chairs or teaching and research funds - created specifically for faculty support. Such funds, particularly named chairs, are also critical to attracting and retaining exceptional junior or senior professors.
A major objective of the State University is to help its campuses continue to strengthen and support the quality of their faculty.
